My 5 favourite small business podcasts

I love a good podcast. They are the background noise to my life. Walking the dog? Chuck a podcast on. Working in the studio? Podcast. In the car? There’s almost always a podcast playing. Going for a long run? Podcast over music, thanks.

When you love podcasts as much as I do, you go through a lot of them. I love all kinds of podcasts. Classic true crime, long-form interviews, pop culture, and of course, anything small-business related. Here are my top five favourite small business podcasts. They entertain, inform and inspire me, and I hope they can do the same for you.

Letters from a Hopeful Creative by Sara Tasker and Jen Carrington

Sara and Jen are both small business owners from the UK, both with individual thriving businesses and their own podcasts, and this joint venture of theirs is my favourite piece of content that they produce. Sara is an Instagram expert and Jen is a coach (they both have many other areas of expertise too!) and together they answer letters from small business owners who need inspiration and guidance.

Jen and Sara have such a wonderful rapport. They have a wealth of knowledge behind them from their years running super successful online businesses and you can tell they truly care about the letter writers that they are answering. They are both anti hustle culture and I love the warmth and support they bring to their listeners. Jen and Sara took a three-year break from their podcast and have just returned, so there is a nice little back catalogue there for you to listen to.

Building your Brand by Liz Moseley

Liz is a graphic designer also based in the UK (sensing a theme here?) and her podcast is all about branding and small business. Liz mostly interviews other experts in areas such as marketing, branding, social media and small business mindset. Liz is such a wonderful interviewer! She really gets the most out of her guests, asking the questions she herself really wants answered, and always manages to get a few product business related questions in there too (thanks Liz!).

I find these episodes not only inspirational but also so informative. I always come away with so much valuable information and new ideas of what I want to tackle next in my business. The information is presented in a friendly, approachable way with no jargon or icky hustle-style business tactics. Liz has a fantastic back catalogue going back to 2021 which I am still working through.

Your Dream Business by Theresa Heath-Wareing

I just love an English accent, okay? Theresa is another UK-based small business owner, coach and podcaster. She is about to publish her 300th podcast episode so there is an absolute wealth of knowledge there for you to work through! Theresa used to do a lot of interviews but in 2023 has streamlined her podcasts to be solo episodes focusing on small business mindset and tools. I love this as I love a mix of interviews and personal stories in my podcast listening!

Theresa weaves a lot of personal stories through her podcasts, giving her listeners information, tips and inspiration based on her own experiences in life and business. I find this really grounds the podcast as it gives you real life examples of how to implement these mindset shifts and business tips. I have only just started going through Theresa’s back catalogue to listen to some of her interviews and they are wonderful as well.

Small Business Made Simple by Jenn Donovan

As much as I adore an English accent I felt recently that my small business podcast time was slightly too UK focused and I wanted to listen to something from a bit closer to come. This is how I discovered Jenn’s podcast which is Australian! Jenn is based in Victoria and is a marketing expert who also has a background in retail.

Again, Jenn’s podcast is similar to the ones I have already mentioned in that she has solo episodes where she shares tips and tricks related to marketing, business tips, social media and mindset, and also interviews other experts in the field. Jenn’s advice is clear, practical and easy to implement in any small business. Of course my favourite thing about this podcast is that it is Australian so it is so super relatable!

The Social Sunday by Hannah Isted

This is the newest podcast (to me) in this list but I needed five in total because listicles always need to be an odd number (in my opinion, haha). Hannah is a marketing and content GENIUS from the UK and she has just relaunched this podcast which comes out, surprise surprise, every Sunday! Hannah’s episodes are short and to the point which I love, it’s nice to be able to smash out a whole episode on the drive to work.

Hannah runs a very successful group program on marketing and content and is also about to write a book on the subject, and so generously shares this wealth of knowledge on her podcast. She makes marketing and content creation sound so simple and easy (it’s honestly remarkable how much we build it up in our heads sometimes), and I love that.

So there you go. If you’re a podcast fiend like me I hope you find something new to listen to here! If you haven’t really gotten into podcasts yet then give them a try. I struggle to find time to dedicate to growing my business so getting in these little nuggets of information and inspiration throughout my day, while doing other things, helps me so much. Happy listening!
